Melanie Guiney

Melanie is an end of life educator who is passionate about working with people with intellectual disability, autism and their family / carers.
Melanie has worked with people with disability for 25 years in a variety of roles and has been called to bring her unique skills and knowledge to build greater understanding to end of life considerations. Having been privileged to be with many as they have travelled through this life Mel is well equipped to listen and hold individuals and families empathetically and with deep respect at this time.
People with disabilities have long been excluded from end of life choices often because it is difficult to talk about. Melanie has many skills in communication e.g., Auslan, key word sign, AAC and visuals.
Melanie is a very practical developmental educator who has supported families and care teams through positive behaviour support and is a specialist sexuality and relationship educator. Journeying beside people through transitions and change is her life’s work. She sees her role in supporting people with disabilities and their families to understand terminal illness, death and dying and supporting decision making and preparation of end of life care directives.
