Hi, I’m Jenny and I’m based in Lismore, NSW. I’m new to end of life doula work but my path to this enriching role is a culmination of life experiences and a genuine desire to provide compassionate care and support.
While my children were little, I took time out from a career in publishing and trained as a breastfeeding counsellor. It was a voluntary role where I provided empathetic personal support and education to individuals and groups. I worked in harmony with healthcare providers and empowered families to access vital information and services in times of stress and transition. Many of the families I supported were new to the area and new to the challenges of parenting. I cherished this role for nearly a decade and formed deep connections with the people I supported. On returning to paid work, I looked for a new career where I could continue to be of service.
This led to a position in a council-run information centre where I helped visitors to get their bearings and assisted new residents of all ages connect with the services available in the local community. For many years, I also managed festivals and events. While this was a lot of fun, I felt a strong need to provide more direct and meaningful assistance in people’s lives.
Again, responding to the call to serve, I retrained in disability support. For over a decade it has been an absolute delight and honour to provide personalised, grounded, practical help and companionship to those living with disabilities and older adults in their homes.
This work has deepened my understanding of the importance of choice and control, advocacy, preserving dignity and the value of providing person-centred care. All these experiences and more have led me to train further to broaden my practice. I believe that empathy and trust are the foundation of meaningful support. I want you to feel heard, respected and supported. I am pleased to offer to the wider community end of life doula services that aim to meet your specific needs and provide continuity of care for your journey, from living well to after death, and every point in between.
The wonderful Northern Rivers region has been my home since 2016 and I describe myself as: caring, considerate, cheerful, flexible, reliable and non-judgemental.
